navigation with arrow keys, selection with space bar, open in darkroom with enter keyWhy do we need to press spacebar? For culling it is a pain. The best scenario for me for this workflow would be right arrow + number to rate pictures (or "r" to reject). This way you can fly through this boring task without ever lifting your fingers from two keys. This sums it up for me
I had similar problems when rating and rejecting photos. A couple of times I got a hint saying something like "r not defined" or "not initiated", but it sort of went back to working for unclear reasons. Just recently I discovered that having caps lock activated can throw off the shortcuts as well. The main confusion was due to the hint saying "r not assigned". I have written a bug report about that.
Hey bigbasou, the creation of duplicates has been moved to the Edit menu on top. There you can choose to Create new development (Ctrl + N) to start a duplicate with a reset history or to Duplicate existing development (Ctrl + D) to create a duplicate with the current history applied. It is also true that a lot of shortcuts have been affected with the changes that Ansel has undergone. The export for example has been removed from darkroom all together so the shortcut only works in lighttable.
The dropdown issue is already known: https://community.ansel.photos/view-discussion/clicking-issue-windows-10 What do you mean by the "hidden options" of the "display metadata" module? How is it related to the dropdown issue?
Hey Nirceu, you can ctrl+scroll while hovering "Display Metadata" to resize it. It's not very intuitive, but other modules resize the same way. Also you can configure which entries should be shown by clicking on the hamburger menu of the module.
It looks like you are experiencing the same problem as described here: https://github.com/aurelienpierreeng/ansel/issues/50 The report is quite old and it states that the work on that issue is on hold but maybe you can make something of Auréliens last comment. About the "Metadata" display, I think it's normal that it is not included in the container. You can however configure what it shows with the hamburger menu and "ctrl+scroll" to change it's height.
Your assumption is right. The modules appear in predefined groups only. They are thought to represent a workflow from left-to-right.Moving between workflow steps means moving between module tabs, and can be done with Ctrl+Tab, wheel scroll over tabs, or right click on tabs -> select in menu
Hey @isaac, in regard of the Ansel logo and the missing views in the top right, your screenshot looks fine. Both elements have been removed some time ago. On the other hand your screenshots still shows a different configuration of the top and bottom panel. However, that's all work in progress, so it might not be worth chasing down the reasons. I would really like to build Ansel on my Mac too, but being stuck on BigSur 😬 I don't know where to start.
Hey Steve, whenever I need to get to that level of detail in filtering, I use tags to be able to show only images containing on particular person for example. Regarding your other request to have a file browser inside the import dialoge I don't really see the need. At the moment you can either do your culling and rating before import in other software as you describe with Nikon NX Studio (or other options from what I have gathered in "I don't use Lighttable at all"-discussions) or do it after the import with the help of Ansel's Lighttable (once it's rework is done that is). Why add a third option that lives "in between"?
I really like the "selected" filter as a nice and simple version of culling mode. One thing struck me though: When I enable the "selected" filter, I enter a new level of collection. In the screenshots below there are 10 images selected, once I activate the "selected" filter, it only displays those 10 images (as expected), but it also reads "0 images of 17 images in current collection selected". I would have expected that the selection stays the same, which would in turn make it possible to cull images by simple deselecting them. In other words: I select all candidates, enter selected filter, deselect until I have reduced down to "keepers", then apply star rating/color label/tag to the remaining and still selected images.Nice touch on the automatically adjusting zoom level in the selected filter.
Hey,I just found a way how I could use the "search filmroll..." function on more than one filmroll at a time. By doing so I didn't have to re-import the images. Basically I just right clicked on a higher level folder in the Library module which was set to Folders in View: Tree. That way I could locate several folders at once that I had moved from internal storage to an external drive. Now I'm wondering: Is this a safe way to use "search filmroll..." feature or will I be facing trouble soon? 😅
