I found Ansel yesterday, downloaded an app image, and clicked around a bit.
I sympathized with the developer's ideas. I think Darktable has become too cluttered.
I decided today to start providing financial support. I went in and paid 30 euros (5 per month). There were already TWO payment options, and I chose Librapay.
When I went to check out my Ansel Community account, I discovered that you can become a premium member there. I wish I had been informed of this a little earlier. I would obviously have chosen a premium membership for 5 euros per month rather than just donating. So now I feel cheated.
But I really hope that Ansel develops well and that I get value for the donation I have made so far, even if I don't get access to what would have been included in a premium membership.
I concur. I have been hopping AP would clean up the donation process.
Don't let it hold you back, Ansel will be the GOAT.
What's the difference between premium membership and simply donating? I suspect continued access to Ansel and personal satisfaction of having contributed to the cause in the best way you can are the benefits either way.

The difference between standard and premium is another complication regarding donations that requires an answer. Would anyone like to answer that question?
Then, of course, as a donor, you don't want to feel cheated. Therefore, it naturally feels better to get something in return for your donation compared to those who don't donate.
I happened across one benefit of premium membership in Help & Rules. "Free users get a total storage of 256 MB for all their uploads. Premium users have unlimited storage space. Image files should be limited to a resolution of 2048×2048 px, and encoded in JPG at quality 85 (this is a guideline that will not be enforced, just use your best judgment here)."
